  • Researcher

    Microsoft, EMEA External Research Office

(Public Company; MSFT; Computer Software industry)

    November 2008November 2009 (1 year 1 month)

I was leading a project under joint Russian NTO office (Microsoft Russia) / PC|3 (Microsoft Corp.) initiative on context awareness and its applications for adaptive user interfaces. In this project, a mobile PC is extended with custom hardware (GPS receiver, digital compass, ambient light sensor, and accelerometer). Software adapts its user interface to the change of context and also features an augmented reality mode built entirely on sensors’ data instead of traditional solutions on image recognition.

My functions on this position included research project management, market research, market analysis, custom hardware and software development and prototyping, user experience design, software design.

The project was showcased to two Microsoft Corporate VPs, Bill Mitchell of PC|3 and Dan Ling of Microsoft Research.

  • Microsoft Student Partner

    Microsoft Russia

(Public Company; MSFT; Computer Software industry)

    December 2004July 2009 (4 years 8 months)

MSP is an annual award recognizing university students who have demonstrated strong technical knowledge of Microsoft developer technologies, and who willingly share that knowledge through campus groups, clubs, and online communities. MSP is not a Microsoft employee, it is a volunteer, non-paid position.

As a member of the program I was working closely with the DPE (Developer and Platform Evangelism) divisions of Microsoft Russia, Microsoft CEE, Microsoft EMEA and Microsoft Corp. (HQ) on technology marketing and technology adoption of company's platforms and services among research and academia audiences (with the primary target in the ICT field).

This work included running in-campus technological events—including product launch waves (Visual Studio, Windows, Office etc.), lectures of MS employees and independent software professionals—and promotion of company's initiatives for academia and students (Imagine Cup, Channel 8, DreamSpark etc.) as well as organizing and supporting local campus communities.

omniMusic is a software which enables musicians to join a community, find other musicians of complementary skills and interests, perform live in a distributed environment, and share the real-time performance broadly via IP multicasting.

In this project I was responsible for user experience design—user interactions design, prototyping, graphic design and software development of the user interface—and for product design and marketing (incl. graphic design for branding, style guide, marketing materials and development of the web site).

Our team won the venerable title of Microsoft’s Imagine Cup 2005 World Champion in Yokohama, Japan and was unofficially named Technology Rock Stars by Microsoft. Short after that the project turned into a startup company Musigy, Inc. based in San Francisco, CA.
